A free alternative to PDFQuiz

Updated

Looking for a free PDF quiz maker with no sign-up? What PDFQuizGenerator does, what it does not do, and how to choose the right tool.

If you have been searching for a way to turn PDFs into quizzes, you have probably come across several tools with similar names, including PDFQuiz. Features and pricing change often, so check each product's own website for its current plans. This page explains what PDFQuizGenerator offers, what it deliberately leaves out, and what to look for when choosing any PDF quiz maker.

What PDFQuizGenerator does

  • Free, with no sign-up. There are no accounts, subscriptions or payment details.
  • Quizzes from any text-based PDF of up to 100 pages, pasted notes or a web page link.
  • Four question types: multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank and short answer, at easy, medium or hard difficulty.
  • 5 to 50 questions, spread evenly across the whole document or a page range you pick.
  • Flashcards and worksheets from the same questions, plus exports to Anki, Quizlet, Kahoot, Google Forms and CSV.
  • Instant feedback on every answer, with a one-sentence explanation.
  • A results screen with your score and a full review.
  • Share links that anyone can open for 30 days, no upload needed.

Privacy by design

Many online tools upload your whole file to a server. PDFQuizGenerator reads the text out of your PDF inside your browser, so the PDF itself never leaves your device. Only the extracted text is sent to write the questions, and only the finished quiz is stored, for 30 days, so the share link works. If you study from lecture notes, internal documents or anything else you would rather not upload, that difference matters. The privacy policy explains it in plain English.

What it does not do (yet)

Being free and simple means some things are out of scope. PDFQuizGenerator does not read scanned PDFs or photos, and does not offer classroom accounts, live multiplayer games or grade books. For live games you can export your questions to Kahoot, and for marking you can send them to Google Forms. If you need everything in one place, a paid tool may suit you better.

How to choose a PDF quiz maker

  1. Privacy: does it upload your whole file, and how long does it keep it?
  2. Cost: is the free tier genuinely usable, or a short trial?
  3. Sign-up: do you need an account before you can try it?
  4. Question quality: are wrong options plausible, and are answers explained?
  5. Sharing: can other people take the quiz without signing up?

The easiest way to judge is to try the same PDF in each tool and compare the questions. You can make a free quiz here in about fifteen seconds.

Try it with your own PDF. Free, no sign-up, and your file never leaves your device.
