Privacy policy

The short version

  • Your PDF stays on your device. It is never uploaded to our servers.
  • Your browser extracts the text from the PDF and sends only that text to us so we can write the quiz. We do not store the extracted text.
  • If you paste text instead, that text is sent the same way. If you give a web page link, our server fetches that page once to read its text. Neither is stored.
  • Exports (Anki, Quizlet, Kahoot, Google Forms, CSV) and printable worksheets are made in your browser; nothing extra is sent to us.
  • The generated quiz is stored for 30 days so that share links work, then it is deleted automatically.
  • There are no accounts. We do not ask for your name or email to use the tool.
  • Some pages (the home page and guides, never quizzes) may show ads from Google, which uses cookies. You can control this; see Advertising and cookies.

What happens when you make a quiz

When you choose a PDF, your web browser opens it and reads the text on your device. When you press Generate, the extracted text, the page count, a title taken from the file name or first heading, the number of questions and any timer you chose are sent to our server. Our server sends the text to an AI service that writes the questions, checks the result and saves the finished quiz. The text of your document is used only to write that quiz; we do not keep it in our database.

Pasted text is handled the same way as text from a PDF. Web page links are different: because browsers can't read other websites' pages, our server fetches the page at the link you give, extracts its readable text and uses it to write the questions, exactly as above. The website you link to will see a request from our server, not from you. We don't store the page or its text. Flashcards and worksheets are the same stored quiz shown in a different way.

We use OpenRouter to reach the AI model, and OpenRouter passes the text to the company hosting that model to generate the questions. These providers may be located in other countries. Please don't use documents containing sensitive personal information, such as health records, ID numbers or other people's personal data.

What we store

  • Quizzes: the title, questions, answer options, explanations, any timer setting, number of pages and creation time. Anyone with a quiz's link can view it. Quizzes are deleted after 30 days.
  • Service logs: for each request to the AI service we record the model used, token counts, response time and whether it succeeded. These contain no document text and no personal data, and are deleted after 90 days.

Your answers and scores are worked out in your browser and are never sent to us. If you type your name before a quiz, it is saved only in your browser so it can be filled in next time and shown on your results; it is never sent to us. We don't use analytics or tracking scripts of our own.

Bot protection

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that quizzes are requested by people rather than automated bots. Turnstile may process information about your browser and device to do this. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Hosting

PDFQuizGenerator runs on Cloudflare's network. Like any website, requests pass through Cloudflare, which may process technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the service. We don't store your IP address.

Advertising and cookies

To keep the tool free, we may show ads on the home page and guide pages. There are no ads on quizzes, results or the screen shown while a quiz is being made. Ads are provided by Google AdSense.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you'll be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time. The quiz tool itself doesn't set any cookies.

Your choices and rights

Because we have no accounts, we don't hold information that identifies you, and we can't link quizzes to you. If you want a quiz removed before its 30 days are up, email us the quiz link and we will delete it. For questions about advertising data, use the Google links above.

Children

The tool is suitable for students. It does not ask for personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Ads shown on the site are not directed at children.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
